Winter 1975 saw the opening of Mary Jane, 350 acres of primarily advanced terrain that cost approximately $4.8 million. Mary Jane was named after the old placer mine at the base of the area – legend has it that the mine was named after a particularly popular young lady that operated one of the valley’s most successful enterprises. 3 double chairs (4,800 skiers per hour) , 2 serving the full 1800 vertical foot rise to the advanced terrain and 1 double chair stopping 2/3 of the way up for primarily intermediate terrain – the breakdown being 39% expert, 23% intermediate-expert, 32% intermediate and 6% beginner.
